The Gospel Daily - Enough to Bring Joy in Heaven
Today's Verse:
“Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” - Luke 15:7
What brings joy and rejoicing in Heaven? In this story, Jesus was speaking to a combined audience of tax collectors, sinners, Pharisees, and scribes. During that era, Pharisees believed they were the only ones righteous, having memorized laws and traditions but only to practice it outwardly for everyone to see. How very wrong to have such a way of thinking. Jesus emphasized it is not lip service nor empty actions that causes angels to celebrate, but the repentance of one sinner! (verse 10) In the same way, we shouldn’t be content in just feeling sorry for our faults and shortcomings, instead we should go deeper and lead one another into true repentance. Being touched by our pastor’s sermons is not enough. God knows tomorrow we’ll return to our old ways and easily forget how regretful we were the day before. What’s required of us is to put our old ways completely behind, and to be continuously transformed in our new life with our Lord and Savior. - Commentary by Mark Natividad
Today's Prayer:
Heavenly Father, forgive us for when we don’t lead others to You in repentance. Forgive us if we ourselves fail to repent of our sins. We repent Lord and ask You to help us move forward to a new life in Your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
