When you’re prone to forgetting
For the righteous falls seven times and rises again. – Proverbs 24:16
My mom likes to joke that as she’s getting older, she’s developing amnesia. She’s been saying that for years, and honestly, she remembers just fine.
But if I’m honest, there’s a kind of forgetting that’s far more serious, and far more common. It’s a kind of spiritual amnesia.
We forget who we’re called to be. We forget what God has said. We forget the commitments we once made. And slowly, almost without noticing, we forget who we are and whose we are.
But when we find ourselves there, nothing restores our memory like God’s Word.
When we return to it, we’re reminded of what’s still true: God is faithful. His mercy is not exhausted. His promises still stand. And we are still His.
Proverbs 24:16 tells us that though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again. That means failure is never final. God is the one who sustains us and by His grace, every day is an invitation to begin again.
So if you feel like you’ve been forgetting lately who God is, what He’s promised, and who you are in Christ, open His Word and let His truth steady your heart again.
Prayer: Lord, when I forget what is true, draw me back to you and anchor my heart in your Word. Amen
Reflect: What truth of God do you need to be reminded of today?
