True boldness
The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. – Proverbs 28:1
Boldness is something we naturally admire.
We tell stories about people who stood firm in impossible situations, men and women who refused to compromise, who trusted God even when it cost them everything, and who accomplished great things because they lived with courage instead of fear.
But when we think about boldness, many of us assume it belongs to “stronger” Christians like missionaries, pastors, leaders, or people with fearless personalities. We convince ourselves that we’re too timid, too insecure, or too ordinary to live boldly for Christ.
Yet Proverbs 28:1 says something remarkable: “the righteous are bold as a lion.” Notice it doesn’t say the talented are bold, or the confident are bold. It says the righteous are bold.
If you belong to Jesus, then your righteousness comes from Him, not from your own strength. Because of Christ, you no longer have to live controlled by fear, insecurity, shame, or the opinions of others. Your confidence is rooted in who God says you are.
I don’t know what you need to face with boldness today. Maybe it’s speaking truth with love, praying for someone out loud, sharing your faith, giving generously, or saying no to temptation.
Whatever it is, remember this: true boldness is not self-confidence. It’s God-confidence.
Prayer: Lord, help me live boldly for you. When fear and insecurity rise up, remind me of who I am in Christ. Amen.
Reflect: Are you living boldly? How does knowing that you are righteous in Christ change the way you face fear today?
