The battle against fear
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear has a way of quietly shaping our lives. It keeps us from taking risks, trusting God fully, stepping into new opportunities, or surrendering control. We fear failure, rejection, disappointment, uncertainty, and sometimes even success.
Maybe you know what that feels like. I do too.
The good news is that fear does not come from God. Scripture reminds us that God has given us a different spirit: one marked by power, love, and self-control. Through Jesus, we are no longer slaves to fear. That doesn’t mean we never feel afraid, but it does mean fear no longer has to lead us.
Fear grows where lies are believed. The enemy loves to plant thoughts like: “God won’t come through,” “You’re not enough,” “Things will never change,” or “Your future is hopeless.” The more we believe those lies, the more fear tightens its grip on our hearts.
That’s why, in the battle against fear, there are three critical steps we must take: First, name your fear as specifically as you can. Second, try to identify the lie surrounding your fear. And third, start replacing the lie you’re believing with the truth of God’s promises.
As you fill your mind with God’s truth, courage begins to grow and fear starts to loosen its grip.
Prayer: Lord, replace every lie with your truth, and fill my heart with your peace, courage, and confidence in you. Amen.
Reflect: What fear has been controlling your thoughts lately? What truth from God’s Word do you need to speak over that fear today?
