Manipulating Text

Copying and Moving Text

While surfing the web ore reading emails, you may want to copy text from one place into another. Phone numbers, an interesting article or a recipe can usually be copied from the place where you read the text, to another program like Notepad or even the Notes section of SAMNet. Mastering the abilities to cut, copy and paste will enable you to create such things like address lists and recipe collections. All you need to do first is to practice using these simple commands.

Selecting Text

Selecting text lets you specify what information you want to copy or move elsewhere. As you select each portion of text, you will be highlighting it as you go. After selecting text, you have to cut or copy the text to its new location.

To select text to be copied in a document, email or web site, press "Control+A." This command will select everything in a given window. We could then copy this large amount of text and put it into say a new Word document, however, we may copy over information we might not have wanted. You can always go back and edit the information you don't want out of your copied text later of course. But you may find that selecting specific text may be a better way to get stuff from one place to another when copying text.

This section will discuss how to select single letters, words, lines and paragraphs. You can actually select many more things, however, we will start with these options.

The Shift Key is essential in helping us select text. Select an entire word by simultaneously pressing "Shift+control+right arrow." Select an entire line of text by pressing "Shift+down arrow." To copy an entire paragraph, press "Shift+Control+Down arrow."

Copying and Moving Selected Text

To copy text you have highlighted to the clipboard, press "Control+C.". To paste this text in to a new location while leaving the original text where it was, press "Control"V." To move text from one location to another, highlight the text as described above, then press "control+X" to cut from its current location, go to the new location you want the text to be placed, then press "Control+V" to paste the text here.

Spell Check Text

You can check your spelling from many portions of SAMNet. Emails, notes and even edit fields from the SA Mobile Browser can all be checked for accurate spelling.

When in an edit field, press "F7." This will launch the Spell Check feature. You can then hear examples of what suggested corrections are available. You will also hear a short description of how to use this feature. Each correction suggestion will be spoken in the line of text where it was found. In each line with a misspelled word, you will be given a list of possible suggestions in a drop down menu. Press "Alt+Down arrow" to open this menu. Then move the focus up and down with the arrow keys to hear each suggestion. Press Enter on the one you would like to use. You can then move to the "Check Again" box to continue through your text.

If you do not hear the correct word from the list of suggestions, you can select the ""Manual" option to fix an error on your own. Once selected, the Spell Check box will now offer you the ability to make a manual edit from the spot of the misspelled word. Retype the word again to edit this mistake. You can also select "Finished Checking" if you would like to close this window without making any further corrections or when you have completed checking the edit field for errors.
